Overview // Supervisory system

About

I was asked to characterize and design a portal for inspectors and inspection managers. This portal is a central platform for efficient inspections reports, management, and analysis. It empowers users to ensure data accuracy, collaborate effectively, and make informed decisions.

Problem Statement

The system was not user friendly, not intuitive, the basic actions that the main users of the system had to do constantly caused them difficulties. Plus, due to the inconvenience of using, all processes, such as open new request, took much more time. Plus, it required a long instruction process for new employees and human resources for it, since the system was very non-intuitive.Also, the original creators of the system did not think about the fact that inspectors work outside and a high interface contrast is required due to lighting conditions. I needed to study the existing product, understand how it works and what are the users pain points, and recreate it anew, while adding more features along the way.

User Research

Target audience:
Mostly males, managers are of age 50+, inspectors are younger, around their 30s.

User Personas:
Group 8501.png
1. Manager
Moshe Ravid
Age: 50
Marital Status: married +2.
2. Inspector
Haim Franco
Age: 30
Marital Status: single.

Moshe comes to work sometimes tired, impatient, and his eyesight is deteriorating, he starts to feel the need for glasses. He strives to be able to do what is required of him easily and without unnecessary effort. Moshe has an academic education, is in the management level and usually works from the office.

He is always on the move, going from site to site. Speed of daily requests is highly important, it is very important for him to do everything efficiently and quickly, he is young and short tempered.

Pain Points:
  • need for high contrast interface
  • each assignment in the system took too long
  • managers need to monitor and see the big picture and there  was no separate dashboard only for managers
  • existing app required training to use the app effectively. It didn't have an intuitive interface and didn't provide onboarding resources
Suggested Solutions:
  • Contrast enhancement
  • Labeling and big and clear titles, consistent design of titles and buttons that motivate action and gives design uniformity that reduces cognitive load
  • Checking with users what are the most useful activities, highlighting them and hiding the other options under "see more"
